The Workshop on Matsya Sampada Jagrukta Abhiyan (MSJA) will be inaugurated by Shri Sagar Mehra, Joint Secretary (Inland Fisheries and Administration), Department of Fisheries, at the National Institute of Fisheries Post Harvest Technology and Training (NIFPHATT), Kochi on October 23, 2023. During this workshop, presentations and discussions will focus on various aspects of fisheries development and implementation of schemes under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) in Kerala. Stakeholders from the fisheries and aquaculture sector, including fishers, fish-farmers, entrepreneurs, cooperative society leaders, professionals, scientists, and others, will participate in the event.

The aim of the Matsya Sampada Jagrukta Abhiyan is to disseminate information and knowledge about the achievements and success stories of the Department of Fisheries over the past nine years and reach out to around 2.8 crore fish farmers, with a particular focus on communities in 3,477 coastal villages, fish workers, self-help groups, joint liability groups, fisheries federations, mandals, and local fisheries societies. The program serves as a platform for sharing valuable information, best practices, and the latest advancements in fisheries and aquaculture techniques, fish farming technologies, fish processing, and value addition. It aims to encourage the adoption of advanced practices for increased efficiency and profitability, promote responsible fisheries management, and contribute to the well-being of communities dependent on the fisheries sector. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to popularize fisheries programs and schemes and boost domestic fish consumption.

The Workshop on Matsya Sampada Jagrukta Abhiyan will provide a forum for stakeholders to learn about the latest developments and technologies in fisheries and aquaculture and promote sustainable practices in the sector. The event will also help create awareness about government welfare schemes and improve the overall impact of fisheries-related initiatives in India.
