India marks a momentous milestone in its military diplomacy with the successful conclusion of its inaugural Female Military Officers Course for officers hailing from ASEAN countries and the Indian Army. This landmark initiative, rooted in the Indian Army’s commitment to gender neutrality and women’s empowerment, was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence and aligned with the UN framework.

This endeavor underscores India’s dedication to fostering deeper international cooperation while championing gender equality within the armed forces. This commitment is particularly significant in light of India’s longstanding involvement with the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus.

The course was meticulously designed to enhance leadership capabilities, strategic insight, and operational proficiency among female officers. It also provided a dynamic platform for cross-cultural interaction and mutual professional development. Participants engaged in a diverse range of activities, including dynamic workshops, tactical simulations, and expert lectures.

An integral component of the course’s curriculum was the inclusion of India’s esteemed legacy in UN peacekeeping efforts. Conducted under the auspices of the Centre for UN Peacekeeping in India, globally renowned for its training and deployment of peacekeepers across various UN missions, participants had the invaluable opportunity to witness a demonstration of UN peacekeeping drills. This offered them firsthand insight into the exacting standards that India upholds in international peace missions.

In addition to the academic and tactical components, participants were immersed in India’s rich cultural heritage. They took part in organized yoga sessions and embarked on heritage tours of Delhi and Agra. Furthermore, they were introduced to ‘Made in India’ equipment slated to be utilized in forthcoming UN missions.

As the curtain falls on this inaugural venture, it stands not only as a testament to India’s evolving military diplomacy but also as a beacon of hope for strengthened ASEAN-India ties. Moreover, it signals a promising future for the role of women in global peacekeeping and defense sectors.
