NLC India Limited, a prominent Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking operating under the Ministry of Coal, has taken a significant stride in the realm of renewable energy. The organization recently incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary, NLC India Green Energy Limited (NIGEL), exclusively dedicated to spearheading its renewable energy ventures. During the subsidiary’s inaugural board meeting, essential managerial appointments were sanctioned, and the company’s distinctive logo was adopted.
Shri. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, the Chairman of NIGEL, unveiled the company’s logo and expressed his confidence in NIGEL’s role in expediting renewable energy generation capacity growth. He emphasized that the current industry climate reflects a strong optimism, especially concerning the concurrent development of renewable energy and energy storage systems such as Pumped Hydro System and Battery Energy Storage System.
Highlighting the promising landscape of energy storage, Shri. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli referred to the Optimal Energy Mix Report 2030 published by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Ministry of Power, which envisions a substantial Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity of approximately 41.65 GW. This presents a remarkable opportunity for the development of cutting-edge storage systems.
NIGEL’s ambitious agenda involves establishing renewable energy projects with a cumulative capacity of 6 GW by the year 2030. Currently, the subsidiary is actively developing projects with a combined capacity of 2 GW across diverse locations in the country. This strategic move underscores NLC India Limited’s commitment to advancing renewable energy and bolstering the nation’s clean energy landscape.
