The Union government announced the list of 98 nominees of Smart Cities, covering a population of 13 crores i.e. approx. 35% of urban population . Venkaiah Naidu said that the Central government proposes to give support to Mission to the extent of Rs 48,000 crore over a 5 year period. The implementation of the Mission at the city level will be done by a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) and the state/UTs & urban local bodies shall have an important role to play in the implementation of Smart City.

Though there is no universal definition of a Smart City and varies from city to city and country to country, depending on the level of development, willingness to change and reform, resources and aspirations of the city residents does go a long way to determine the same.venkaiah_naidu_list of 98 smart cities_indianbureaucracyIn the Smart Cities Mission, the objective is to promote cities that provide core infrastructure and give a decent quality of life to its citizens, a clean and sustainable environment and application of ‘Smart’ Solutions. IndianBureaucracy.com wishes that the Smart Cities take shape the way that they have been planned and still the real estate prices stay in reach of a common man. We do hope that the tags for Smart Cities do not become a political tug of war to appease political affiliations.
