ATRA SUTRA » is a reverie along the metaphysical universe of textiles, from the West to India. Inter-weaving myths, philosophy and visuals, the film sails along a painted narrative on cloth. Actual images of weaving scenes team with Indian weavers’ guttural songs. The woven fabric is seen here in its universal dimension. Penelope and Draupadi appear as two twin icons of the same discourse on womanhood. From the 15th century, Kabir’s verses speak of peace and introspection to today’s audience. Mahatma Gandhi’s spinning wheels are still in motion. Indian rivers’ names become an invocation for the Seeker, a new mantra.
