Dept of Telecommunications holds 21 Cleanliness Campaigns

The Government of India’s Swachhata Campaign, implemented in Government Offices, has placed significant emphasis on promoting cleanliness from December 2022 to August 2023. This Special Campaign has encompassed a wide range of activities, including cleanliness initiatives, a comprehensive review and simplification of rules and procedures, an in-depth examination of record management systems, efficient workspace utilization, and proper waste disposal, all aimed at enhancing the overall workplace experience.

The Department of Telecom, operating under the Ministry of Communications, has introduced specific ‘best practices’ within the Sanchar Bhavan Complex, yielding positive outcomes. These practices include:

  • Eliminating Single Use Plastic Drinking Water bottles in the Sanchar Bhavan Complex.
  • Substituting plastic folders with eco-friendly recycled paper folders.
  • Employing a contracted lady Doctor every working day afternoon, benefiting the health and hygiene of the 900 regular and contractual employees in the complex.
  • Designating a fixed time every Friday afternoon for special cleaning of the office premises.
  • Transforming piled-up scrap in the basement into a Recreation Club.
  • Converting space adjacent to the parking lot into a modern canteen.
  • Replacing plastic pens with eco-friendly recyclable pens.
  • Providing Sanitary Napkin pad dispensers in ladies’ washrooms.
  • Installing motion sensor detectors to control all lights and electrical appliances in Office Chambers.

Special Campaign Progress:

  • Public Grievances addressed: 35,271
  • Cleanliness Campaign: 21
  • Space Freed: 3,630 Sq. ft.
  • Revenue Earned through disposal of scrap: Rs. 6,47,443/-
  • Files Weeded: 453

Additional Initiatives:

  • A storage area in the Basement of Sanchar Bhawan has been transformed into a compact gymnasium, benefiting nearly 900 employees. The gym is equipped with treadmills, cross-trainers, cycling machines, rowing machines, dumbbells, and weights. A trainer has been engaged.
  • A Face-Recognition Attendance System has been installed and made operational for all outsourced employees in Sanchar Bhawan. It is contactless and ensures privacy and security of the data as it is stored in-house and not connected to the internet.
  • Six Digital Notice Board/Screens have been installed on different floors of Sanchar Bhawan, New Delhi, displaying important events, notices, circulars, schemes, and success stories of the Department.
