A Private Principal Secretary (PPS) in the Central Secretariat Stenographers’ Service (CSSS) is a senior stenographic officer who provides high-level administrative and secretarial support to senior government officials, such as Joint Secretaries or equivalent officers in ministries and departments. The PPS is responsible for managing correspondence, drafting notes, maintaining records, coordinating with various departments, handling confidential information, organising meetings, preparing minutes, and assisting in policy-related documentation. As a promotional post in the CSSS cadre, a PPS typically advances from the Private Secretary (PS) level and serves in central government ministries, departments, and autonomous bodies. The position carries a pay scale at Level 10 or 11 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, depending on seniority and tenure. The PPS plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient functioning of the government secretariat by facilitating smooth communication, workflow management, and administrative support at higher levels of decision-making.
