Shri Chinmay P Gotmare, a 2009 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has built a distinguished career marked by a strong grounding in grassroots administration and progressive leadership in both state and central government roles. He began his career after completing foundational training at the prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in 2010. His first field posting was as Assistant Commissioner in Nagaon, Assam, where he handled sub-divisional administration with notable commitment and efficiency.
Following this, he was posted as Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) in West Garo Hills, Meghalaya, and then as Under Secretary in the Agriculture and Horticulture Department of the Government of Meghalaya. His early assignments reflected a balanced blend of field experience and policy-level exposure. From 2012 to 2014, he served with distinction as Deputy Commissioner of South Garo Hills, earning recognition for his effective handling of district administration and public service delivery.
Continuing his impactful tenure, Shri Gotmare took charge as Director in the Higher and Technical Education Department and later as Joint Secretary in the Education Department of Meghalaya, contributing meaningfully to the human resource development sector. He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District from 2016 to 2018, where his administrative acumen was once again evident in developmental work and governance outreach.
His leadership journey saw a steady rise, as he was promoted to Deputy Secretary and later Additional Secretary in the Human Resource Development and Personnel & General Administration departments. These roles further solidified his reputation as a dependable and reform-oriented officer. In 2022, he was appointed as District Magistrate in Maharashtra on inter-cadre deputation, a significant responsibility where he effectively bridged administrative practices across state cadres.
In April 2025, Shri Gotmare was empanelled for holding Joint Secretary or equivalent positions at the Government of India level—a testament to his caliber, dedication, and proven administrative excellence. He presently serves as Director in the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, where he plays a crucial role in fiscal governance and national expenditure management. His career reflects a fine blend of field sensitivity and policy insight, making him a valuable asset to the civil services.
