Centrally Sponsored Scheme

The Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) of the Department of Justice, under the Ministry of Law & Justice, aims to develop infrastructure facilities for the judiciary, specifically focusing on District and Subordinate Courts. Since its establishment, this scheme has played a crucial role in transforming judicial infrastructure by providing resources for the construction of court buildings, digital computer rooms, lawyers’ halls, toilet complexes, and residential accommodations for judicial officers.

The funding pattern under the scheme is divided between the central government and state governments. The fund-sharing ratio is 60:40, with the central government contributing 60% of the funds and the state government providing the remaining 40%. However, for eight North-Eastern states and two Himalayan states, the ratio is 90:10, with the central government providing 90% of the funds and the state government contributing 10%. Additionally, for Union Territories, the scheme provides 100% central funding.

This funding arrangement ensures that both the central and state governments collaborate to improve the infrastructure facilities in the judiciary. By providing financial support and resources, the scheme aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the judiciary system at the district and subordinate court levels, ultimately benefiting the legal system as a whole.
