In a step towards reinforcing economic ties, the 3rd meeting of the AITIGA Joint Committee concluded in New Delhi, marking progress in the ongoing review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement.
IndianBureaucracy, New Delhi, February 20, 2024: The recently concluded 3rd meeting of the AITIGA Joint Committee, hosted by India in Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi, marked a significant step in the ongoing efforts to review the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA). Co-chaired by Shri Rajesh Agrawal, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India, and Ms. Mastura Ahmad Mustafa, Deputy Secretary General (Trade), Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry, Malaysia, the meeting witnessed active participation from ASEAN member countries, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Signed in 2009, AITIGA has been a crucial instrument in fostering trade relations between India and ASEAN. In September 2022, both sides entrusted the AITIGA Joint Committee with the responsibility of undertaking a comprehensive review aimed at enhancing the agreement’s trade facilitation and mutual benefits.
