Shri Anurag Bhushan IFS (1995) presently Additional Secretary – Ministry of External Affairs has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Sweden, an important posting at a time when India and Sweden are deepening ties in innovation, sustainability, and education.
Shri Anurag Bhushan is a seasoned officer of the Indian Foreign Service , currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, where he heads the Emigration Policy and Welfare (EP&W) Division. In this role, he has led key initiatives in strengthening India’s labor and migration diplomacy, including co-chairing the India-Saudi Joint Committee Meeting on Labour Cooperation. His career reflects a thoughtful blend of policy insight and international engagement, grounded in years of experience across important postings.
Mr. Bhushan holds a degree in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and a postgraduate degree in Management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad. This strong academic foundation has equipped him to navigate complex diplomatic challenges with clarity and strategic foresight. His administrative acumen was also evident during his tenure as Regional Passport Officer between 2010 and 2013.
