Ms Sushma Chauhan IAS (AGMUT 2009), presently on Central Deputation and posted as Director – Home Affairs, MHA, is promoted and appointed as Joint Secretary – Ministry of Home Affairs, MHA, at Level 14 of the Pay Matrix for 5 years upto 07.12.2027.

Ms. Sushma Chauhan promoted as Joint Secretary has an illustrious career, spanning over a decade and a half, is marked by her exceptional dedication to public service, administrative expertise, and a profound commitment to governance.

Ms. Chauhan began her civil service journey with training at LBSNAA Mussoorie and the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jammu (2009-2011). Following this, she was appointed as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Akhnoor (2011-2012), where she played a crucial role in local administration and land revenue management. She then served as Additional Deputy Commissioner in Jammu (2013-2014), where her ability to handle complex governance challenges was widely recognized.

Her leadership skills were further demonstrated during her tenure as Vice Chairman of the Development Authority in Jammu (2014-2015), followed by her appointment as District Collector and District Magistrate in Reasi (2015-2016). She continued her impactful work as Director of Tourism in Jammu (2016-2017), where she contributed significantly to the region’s tourism development.

Ms. Chauhan’s expertise in urban planning and development was evident in her role as Director of the Urban Development Authority in Jammu (2017-2018). She then took on the role of District Collector and District Magistrate in Samba (2018-2019) and later in Jammu (2019-2022), where she effectively led land revenue management and district administration.

Recognizing her expertise, she was brought to the Centre in 2022 as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). She was subsequently elevated to the position of Director, Home Affairs (2023-2025), where she played a pivotal role in shaping national policies and governance strategies. Her promotion to Joint Secretary, MHA (2025-2027), is a testament to her outstanding contributions and deep understanding of public administration.
