Startup India week starts with Roundtable of 40 Unicorns and launch of StartupShala

During the Startup India Innovation Week, Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal led a unicorn roundtable, where 40 unicorns discussed their growth experiences and identified factors contributing to their success. The unicorns shared insights to enhance the Indian startup ecosystem, aiming to position the nation as a global startup leader. Shri Piyush Goyal urged the unicorns to establish a club or association for collaborative solutions, emphasizing access to capital for startups. The conversation focused on simplifying regulatory processes, expanding access in Tier-2/3 cities, and learning from private sector financial institutions’ best practices.

DPIIT celebrated the collaboration of startups, entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, and stakeholders during the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week from January 10th to 18th, 2024. A significant launch was the ‘StartupShala’ – Startup India’s Accelerator Program, a 3-month initiative aimed at early-stage startups. This program offers access to knowledge, networks, funds, and guidance for scaling up. Each cohort, starting with CleanTech, will feature 20 handpicked startups, selected through an open call for applications. To inspire students and aspiring entrepreneurs, a series of five webinars titled ‘MAARG Mentorship Series for Budding Entrepreneurs’ were organized. Industry leaders and mentors shared insights and key lessons on the fundamentals of starting a startup. The live sessions were hosted on Startup India’s social media handles and the MYBharat portal, providing valuable guidance for young entrepreneurs.

Startup India Innovation Week’s The week witnessed over 75 physical events serving as a catalyst for entrepreneurship, showcasing India’s vibrant ecosystem and inspiring countless aspiring founders. Workshops empowering women entrepreneurs, training grounds for incubator champions, and thought-provoking roundtables in various cities facilitated mentor-mentee interactions, nurturing the minds of aspiring pioneers. The launch of one-to-one mentorship programs with corporate partners, including HCL, HSBC India, Qualcomm India Private Limited, and TCS Foundation, provided exclusive guidance to startups in financial lending, operations, sustainable innovations, and disruptive technology. The week forged alliances that are expected to shape the future of the startup ecosystem.

A virtual panel discussion with global partners of Startup India emphasized 5 key pillars of innovation – Incubation, Funding, Public-Private Partnership, Market Access, and Government Infrastructure. In Mumbai, a workshop educated startups on Government e-Marketplace (GeM) benefits, while a Public Procurement Workshop at the University of Hyderabad had over 70 entrepreneurs participating. These initiatives aimed to enhance awareness about innovation and sustainability in the startup ecosystem.
