Ministry of Defence awarded the contract for the Mid-Life Upgrade and Re-Powering of “INS Beas” with Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), based in Kochi, at an aggregate cost of Rs. 313.42 Crores.
“INS Beas” represents the pioneering vessel of the Brahmaputra Class Frigate category to undergo a transformation, transitioning from steam propulsion to a more modern diesel-based propulsion system. Following the successful completion of the Mid-Life Upgrade and Re-Powering project in 2026, INS Beas will rejoin the active fleet of the Indian Navy, equipped with an enhanced weapon suite and upgraded combat capabilities.
This groundbreaking re-powering endeavor not only exemplifies a significant advancement in the Indian Navy’s maintenance strategies but also highlights the repair capabilities of M/s CSL. The project is anticipated to involve the participation of over 50 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and is expected to create employment opportunities for more than 3,500 individuals.
In essence, this project proudly represents an embodiment of the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-reliant India) initiative, aligning seamlessly with the Government of India’s “Make-in-India” vision.
