The Department of Land Resources (DOLR), under the Ministry of Rural Development, commemorated Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary with a cleanliness event called ‘Shramdaan – Swachhata hi Seva.’ This event was held at the Shivaji Stadium Bus Terminal (NDMC Area), New Delhi, as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada – Swachhata hi Seva (SHS) – 2023 initiative.

This phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission emphasizes the Prime Minister’s vision of a ‘Garbage Free India,’ with a focus on the scientific management of waste, turning waste into wealth, and promoting a circular economy. In alignment with this vision, the DOLR organized the event, with Secretary Shri Ajay Tirkey leading the active participation of departmental officers and officials.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from not only the DOLR officers and officials but also members of the local community. The cleanliness activities were meticulously organized, with four teams assigned to cover different segments of the designated area.

The event made a significant impact on both the departmental personnel and the general public, fostering a deeper understanding of the objectives of the Swachhata hi Seva campaign through meaningful Shramdaan for cleanliness. The Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign, an initiative of the Government of India, adopts a comprehensive approach to ensure a significantly higher level of cleanliness through volunteerism (Shramdaan) and community participation (Jan Bhagidari). The launch of SBM 2.0 in 2021 marked a monumental step forward in the historic Swachh Bharat Mission, placing a greater emphasis on citizen participation. On October 1, 2023, at 10 AM, citizens collectively answered the Prime Minister’s call for 1 hour of Shramdaan for Swachhata, offering a ‘Swachhanjali’ to Bapu on the eve of his Jayanti.
