National Archives secures Dr Ram Bux Singh’s valuable collection on Bio-gas

The National Archives of India has acquired the valuable collection of late Dr Ram Bux Singh, an internationally acclaimed scientist, renowned for his pioneering contributions in biogas technology. The acquisition took place on September 26, 2023. Dr Singh, born in Sitapur District, Uttar Pradesh, India, dedicated his life to renewable energy promotion, specifically focusing on biogas technology. The collection includes Dr. Singh’s credentials, extracts from journals and newspapers documenting his work, files, framed pictures, original identification cards, and a collection of books in Hindi and English. This addition enriches the National Archives’ Private Archives collection, providing researchers with unique insights into post-independence scientific history.

The National Archives of India, established in 1891 as the Imperial Record Department in Calcutta and later moved to New Delhi in 1911, is the custodian of non-current records of the Government of India. It operates under The Public Records Act, 1993, preserving the nation’s invaluable documentary heritage. The Archives house a vast collection of public records, including files, volumes, maps, manuscripts, census records, debates, travel accounts, and more. Additionally, it maintains a growing collection of private papers from eminent Indians who have made significant contributions to the nation’s identity and development.
