The 8th edition of the International Conference on ‘India Pharma & India Medical Device 2023’ will be inaugurated by the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, in New Delhi. The conference, organized by the Department of Pharmaceuticals in association with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), will take place from May 26 to 27, 2023. Shri Bhagwanth Khuba, Minister of State for the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, will also participate in the event.

During the conference, Dr. Mandaviya will launch the National Medical Devices Policy, 2023, which has been prepared after extensive consultation with industries and stakeholders. Additionally, the Export Promotion Council for Medical Devices will be formally launched. The Minister expressed confidence in the Indian Pharmaceutical Sector, often referred to as the Pharmacy of the World, stating that it will contribute even more in the coming years to both domestic and global needs. Recognizing the significance of the Medical Devices Sector, which has the potential to reach $50 billion by 2030, the Union Cabinet recently approved the National Medical Devices Policy, 2023.

As part of the conference, a new scheme named ‘Assistance for Medical Devices clusters for Common Facilities (AMD-CF)’ will also be launched. This scheme aims to strengthen or establish common infrastructure facilities and testing facilities for medical devices in clusters.

The two-day conference will be dedicated to the India Medical Device sector on May 26, 2023, focusing on the theme “Sustainable MedTech 5.0: Scaling and Innovating Indian MedTech.” On May 27, 2023, the focus will shift to the Pharmaceutical sector with the theme “Indian pharma industry: Delivering Value through Innovation.”

The event will include an inaugural session on May 26, featuring the launch of the National Medical Device Policy, 2023, the Scheme for Assistance to Medical Devices Clusters for Common Facilities (AMD-CF), and the formal launch of the Export Promotion Council for the Medical Devices. CEO’s Roundtable and thematic conference sessions will be held on both days for the Medical Device and Pharmaceutical sectors. Over 100 CEOs from the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, as well as more than 700 participants from these sectors, are expected to attend the conference.

The keynote addresses and panel discussions will cover various topics, including practical commercialization strategies for MedTech, innovation and R&D growth, capacity and skill building, the pharmaceutical industry’s role in India’s growth, digital transformation shaping the pharmaceutical industry value chain, and the future of Indian pharma. The conference aims to acknowledge the efforts and performance of the healthcare, pharma, and medical device industry, and the Minister emphasized the importance of such conferences and deliberations for the organic and sustained growth of the industry.

Several dignitaries, including representatives from NITI Aayog, departments of Pharmaceuticals, Health, DPIIT, and Higher Education, as well as officials from various organizations and institutions such as NPPA, MeitY, MoEFCC, BIS, AERB, National Bio-pharma Commission, Drug Controller General of India, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, NIPER Mohali, BIRAC, and Healthcare Sector Skill Council, among others, will speak during the event.
