The active participation of various stakeholders, including states, districts, schools, NGOs, gram panchayats, urban local bodies, water user associations, institutions, and the corporate sector, is crucial for effective water resource management. The National Water Awards (NWA) have been instituted to recognize and encourage exemplary work and efforts made across the country in achieving the vision of a ‘Jal Samriddh Bharat’ (Prosperous Water-Abundant India).

The National Water Awards were first introduced in 2018, followed by the 2nd and 3rd editions. The 4th National Water Awards ceremony will be held on June 17, 2023, where 41 winners across 11 categories will be honored.
