Indian Bureaucracy, New Delhi, February 11, 2025| The Government of India appointed Ms Vishwasree B IAS (Tripura 2014) as Executive Director (a Deputy Secretary level position) of the Tobacco Board, Guntur, under the Department of Commerce. She takes over the role on a four-year central deputation basis and will relieve Shri Sridhar Babu Addanki IAS (Uttarakhand 2008), whose tenure in the position ends on March 11, 2025. Ms Vishwasree B currently serves as Director, Industries & Commerce, Tripura government.
India is the second-largest producer of tobacco globally, supporting 45.7 million livelihoods and contributing ₹12,005.89 crore in foreign exchange earnings during 2023-24. The country ranks second in tobacco exports by quantity and fifth by value. The Tobacco Board, a statutory body established in 1976, plays a crucial role in regulating India’s tobacco industry, ensuring sustainable cultivation, fair pricing, and export promotion.
With her experience in industry and commerce, Ms Vishwasree B is expected to carry out initiatives, especially IT-enabled electronic auctions for price transparency, farmer welfare programs, and strategic export expansion. Her leadership comes at a time when the Board is focusing on sustainable cultivation practices and strengthening India’s position in the global tobacco market.
