Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Higashi Autism School in New Delhi, the Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankar highlighted the selfless dedication of teachers working with children facing autism. He called on men to share the responsibility with their spouses in caring for children with special needs, emphasizing the significance of not leaving one’s partner to face challenges alone.
Higashi Autism School, also known as the Higashi Special Education School, is an educational institution focused on providing specialized education and support for children with autism spectrum disorders. The school follows the Higashi method, an educational approach developed by Dr. Kiyo Kitahara at the Higashi School in Japan. This method emphasizes a comprehensive and individualized approach to education, targeting the development of communication skills, self-reliance, and social integration for children with autism. Higashi Autism Schools aim to create an inclusive and nurturing environment where children with autism can thrive and reach their full potential.
The Vice President acknowledged the significance of this third Higashi Autism School globally, following Tokyo and Boston, as an occasion to celebrate every child with autism. He commended Ms. Rashmi Das, the school’s Chairperson, for her unwavering commitment to the well-being of children with autism. The school visit was described as a “spiritual journey,” and a cultural performance was presented by special children along with their teachers.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Shri Dattatreya Hosabale, RSS Sarkaryavah, Dr. Rashmi Das, Chairperson of Higashi Autism School, faculty members, parents, and other guests.
Shri Dhankhar noted that a “one-size-fits-all” approach doesn’t work, as every child has specific needs and unique qualities. He praised the school’s curriculum, which includes Integrated Approach to Yoga Therapy (IAYT) and Daily Life Therapy, as impactful means to empower special children and make them productive and engaged members of society.
