In the 3rd installment of the Veer Gatha Project, an impressive participation of more than 1.36 crore school students hailing from all 36 States and Union Territories was observed. The students showcased their enthusiasm by contributing poems, paintings, essays, videos, and various forms of creative expressions to pay tribute to the remarkable acts of bravery and sacrifice exhibited by the officers and personnel of the Armed Forces.
The Veer Gatha Project was inaugurated under the Gallantry Awards Portal (GAP) in 2021 with the primary objective of disseminating the inspiring accounts of Gallantry Awardees and their extraordinary life stories among students. This initiative aimed to instill values of civic consciousness and ignite a profound sense of patriotism among the youth. Building upon this noble mission, the Veer Gatha Project 3.0 provided a platform for school students to engage in creative projects and activities inspired by the gallantry award recipients.
The previous editions of the Veer Gatha Project, Edition-I and Edition-II, were successfully conducted in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Under the Veer Gatha Project 3.0, various activities at the school level were organized, spanning from July 28, 2023, to September 30, 2023. Each participating school uploaded the top 04 entries on the MyGov portal.
Simultaneously, to enhance awareness about India’s Gallantry Award Winners, the Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with its field organizations and the Army/Navy/Airforce, conducted virtual and in-person awareness programs and sessions for schools nationwide.
Notably, the previous editions garnered participation from over 8 lakh students in Edition-I and more than 19 lakh students in Edition-II. These endeavors culminated in the recognition of 25 winners (Super 25) during Editions I and II, with felicitation carried out jointly by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Defence in New Delhi.
In the Veer Gatha Project 3.0, a significant expansion is witnessed, with 100 winners (Super 100) set to be selected at the National Level. These exceptional achievers will be honored jointly by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Defence in New Delhi, with each recipient receiving a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.
Additionally, this year’s initiative will include winners at the District level (04 winners) and the State/Union Territory level (08 winners), who will be celebrated and honored by their respective District and State/Union Territory authorities.
