In Madhya Pradesh, the situation is tense but under control in curfew bound Mandsour district. Six people were killed there in the violence during farmers agitation yesterday.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the entire state especially in western Madhya Pradesh in the wake of a statewide bandh call today by some farmers organistions and opposition parties. AIR correspondent reports that the bandh has evoked mixed response so far.
Some people manhandled district collector Swatantra Kumar Singh at Barkheda Pant when he went to advise them to end the blockade on national highway. They were demanding that chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan should come to talk to them and status of martyrdom be given to the deceased.
The situation at Pipliya Mandi is volatile after cremation of a youth who was killed in yesterday’s firing. People set a shop and a factory ablaze today. The Mansour district administration has stopped leaders of different political parties from entering in the district.
Some leaders have been taken in custody while some incidents of misbehaviour with public representatives have also been reported. Internet services have been snapped in Mandsour, Neemuch, Ujjain and Ratlam. Farmers are staging protests at several places across the state. The bandh call has received only partial response in urban areas.
A judicial inquiry has been ordered into the whole incident. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced an ex-gratia of one crore rupees each to the relatives of deceased farmers and five lakhs to the injured. He said that a government job will also be offered to a family member of each deceased.
