Indian Bureaucracy, Gangtok, April 03, 2025 | Recognising the significant potential of its estimated 8,000 MW hydroelectric resources, the Sikkim government re-employed and appointed Shri T T Lepcha, former Principal Chief Engineer-cum-Secretary, Power Department, as Secretary – Independent Power Producers (IPPs), Power Department. With appointment of Shri Lepcha, the state aims to streamline its engagement with IPPs operating within Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) established for power sector projects. Currently, Sikkim contributes approximately 500 MW to the national grid, notably from the Teesta V hydroelectric plant.
Shri Lepcha’s core responsibility will be to facilitate coordination with these IPPs, both private and Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU), to ensure efficient project development and maximise the utilisation of Sikkim’s untapped power resources. Sikkim is commitment to optimising its contribution to India’s energy sector through strategic partnerships with IPPs within SPV frameworks.
IndianBureaucracy.com wishes Shri T T Lepcha the very best.
