Shri Sanjay Pandey ICAS (1994) a distinguished civil servant with over 31 years of experience in the Government of India, has been appointed as Member (Finance) at the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). He belongs to the Indian Civil Accounts Service (1994 Batch) and is currently serving as the Financial Adviser & Chief Accounts Officer (FA&CAO) at the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) since April 2024.
Prior to this, Shri Pandey served as Joint Secretary & Financial Adviser (JS&FA) in the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment from April 2019 to March 2024. During his tenure, he was entrusted with additional responsibilities as Financial Adviser to multiple ministries, including the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers—underscoring the Government’s confidence in his financial acumen and administrative leadership.
His career spans impactful assignments across numerous ministries such as Finance, Environment, Electronics & IT, Renewable Energy, Culture, HRD, Civil Aviation, Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, and more. As Director in the 14th Finance Commission, he made significant contributions to the Commission’s final report, including the State Profiles of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Kerala, Odisha, and Goa.
Internationally, he served in the United Nations Mission of Support in East Timor (UNMISET) and the United Nations Office in Timor-Leste (UNOTIL) as a Financial Consultant, contributing to post-conflict governance and capacity building.
As JS&FA, Ministry of Culture, he was appointed a member of the Prime Minister’s Committee for organizing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, and was closely involved with the development of the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya Museum. He also served on the governing boards of several important bodies including ITDC, ALIMCO, IITTM, NSFDC, NBCFDC, NDFDC, NSTFDC, and TRIFED.
Additionally, he has served on the governing bodies of cultural and environmental institutions such as Lalit Kala Akademi, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sahitya Akademi, National School of Drama, National Museum, Central Pollution Control Board, Wildlife Institute of India, National Tiger Conservation Authority, and Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, among others.
In 2024, he was appointed as the Central Nodal Officer for two districts in Assam under the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, demonstrating his hands-on leadership in field-level governance and outreach.
With his induction into PFRDA, Shri Sanjay Pandey brings unmatched experience in public finance, fund governance, and regulatory oversight, making him an invaluable asset to India’s evolving pension ecosystem. His term will continue until the age of 62 .
