Shri Qazi Mairaj Ahmad, is a distinguished leader in the field of civil engineering and railway infrastructure. With over three decades of experience in Indian Railways, he has made notable contributions to the development, modernization, and innovation of India’s railway network. Known for his results-oriented approach and commitment to public service, Shri Ahmad has held key leadership positions including Chief Engineer (Track Modernization) in Northern Railway and Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Operations & Infrastructure) in Lucknow.
A highly qualified professional, Shri Ahmad holds a B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Roorkee and an M.Tech from IIT Delhi, along with an MBA in Operations Management from IMT Ghaziabad. His academic journey reflects a blend of deep technical knowledge and managerial acumen. He has further honed his leadership skills through executive programs at Harvard University, INSEAD Singapore, ICLIF Kuala Lumpur, and ISB Hyderabad. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®), a Royal Chartered Engineer, and a Fellow of multiple prestigious institutions including the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK) and the Institution of Engineers (India).
Throughout his career, Shri Ahmad has led major infrastructure initiatives, including over 468 km of doubling, gauge conversion, and new line projects, as well as extensive yard remodellings and track renewals at major junctions such as Varanasi, Lucknow, and Pune. His leadership during the 2019 Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, where he oversaw critical railway infrastructure enhancements, was particularly praised and received commendation from the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.
An innovator at heart, Shri Ahmad has been instrumental in the development of the “e-Setu ERP” platform for steel girder fabrication and introduced the “Design Mode Tamping” technique for more efficient track maintenance. He has also played a key role in standardizing metro track designs and contributing to Indo-Japanese collaborations in high-speed rail development.
His contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including national awards and recognition from the Ministry of Railways. He has been conferred the General Manager’s Shield for Best Civil Engineering Project Unit and honored for individual excellence in bridge engineering.
Beyond his technical achievements, Shri Qazi Mairaj Ahmad is deeply invested in ethical governance and sustainability. He is a Certified Independent Director by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) expert accredited by the World Council of Directors. As a Senior Professor at the Indian Railway Institute of Civil Engineering (IRICEN), he continues to mentor and shape the next generation of railway engineers.
