Shri Prakash Magdum IIS (1999) presently Additional Director General (ADG), Press Information Bureau (PIB) & Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ahmedabad has been appointed as Managing Director- National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) for a period of five years .

Shri Prakash Magdum is a distinguished officer of the Indian Information Service (IIS), having joined the service in 1999. Throughout his career, he has held several significant roles in the media and cultural sectors, notably as the Director of the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) in Pune. In this role, he was instrumental in preserving India’s cinematic heritage through film archiving and restoration efforts. He has also served as the Registrar of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), where he managed the administrative functions of one of India’s leading film institutes.

Earlier in his career, Shri Magdum worked as a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence in Thiruvananthapuram, where he represented the ministry in media interactions. He also held the position of Additional Director General at the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) in Ahmedabad, overseeing government communication and public relations strategies.

In addition to his administrative roles, Magdum is an accomplished author and film enthusiast. He wrote The Mahatma on Celluloid: A Cinematic Biography, a comprehensive exploration of how Mahatma Gandhi has been portrayed in Indian cinema. He is also an advocate for film preservation and has been actively involved in lectures and discussions on the subject. With his diverse experience in media, film, and government communication, Magdum has become a key figure in India’s media and cultural landscape.
