Shri Prakash Magdum, an accomplished 1999-batch officer of the Indian Information Service (IIS), has assumed charge as the Managing Director of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) . Known for his insightful leadership and deep understanding of media and cinema, Shri Magdum brings with him a rich legacy of over two decades in public service, particularly in the fields of film preservation and government communication.

Before this appointment, he served with distinction as the Additional Director General at the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) in Ahmedabad, where he was instrumental in strengthening the outreach and communication efforts of the Government of India.

A respected name in the Indian film archival domain, Shri Magdum earlier held the post of Director at the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), Pune. Under his stewardship, the institution saw major strides in the implementation of the National Film Heritage Mission, with focused efforts on the preservation, conservation, digitization, and restoration of India’s priceless cinematic treasures. His contributions in this role were widely appreciated for their visionary impact.

In addition to his work at NFAI, Shri Magdum has served as the Registrar of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and as the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence in Thiruvananthapuram—roles that further underline his diverse capabilities and commitment to public communication.

His appointment as Managing Director of NFDC is seen as a welcome move that is likely to invigorate the organization’s efforts in promoting and supporting Indian cinema across platforms, both domestically and internationally.
