In an Indian Bureaucracy PSU news update, Pawan Hans and University of Mumbai signed an MoU for Skill Development in General Civil Aviation in a function at Kalina Campus, Mumbai University, Mumbai on 23rd March 2017. This Joint Initiative of PHTI (Pawan Hans Helicopters Training Institute) an initiative of Pawan Hans in association with University of Mumbai’s Garware Institute of Career Education and Development (GICED) will be giving a major fillip to General Civil Aviation by launching Dual Qualification Course in BSc (Aeronautics, Affiliated with University of Mumbai) and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course of Pawan Hans (Recognized by DGCA, GoI).pawan Hans-IndianBureaucracy

This association will enhance opportunities for the skilled work force in securing appropriate employment in General Civil Aviation. Air Comodor T.A. Dayasagar, Executive Director, Pawan Hans Ltd. and  Prof. Anil V. Karnik, I/c Director, GICED signed the MoU on Dual Qualification Course in the presence of Dr. Sanjay V. Deshmukh, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor , University of Mumbai and Dr. B P Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director, Pawan Hans Ltd., and the dignitaries from Academic and Helicopter Industries.

The General Civil Aviation Industry has evolved into a global, highly technical and skilled field where the expertise and proficiency of its workforce are critical to the safety of millions of people that fly every day. The visionary training programs initiated by Pawan Hans establish a broad system of technical career paths that quantify knowledge at many levels and enable students to certify the Aircrafts. We believe that skill development programs in an appropriate environment promotes technical and academic aptitude and develops professional opportunities in students to attain appropriate human resource level to the advantage of aviation industry. As part of the ongoing initiative of Government of India in the area of skill development, Pawan Hans and University of Mumbai’s Garware Institute of Career Education and Development (GICED)  join hands together for trainings in the aviation sector to promote the joint venture of education with industry.

This three years, six semesters Aircraft Maintenance Engineering program is aligned with B.Sc. (Aeronautics) degree offered by University of Mumbai’s Garware Institute of Career Education and Development (GICED). This association will enhance opportunities for the skilled work force in securing appropriate employment with upcoming Heliports, MROs, Regional connectivity scheme & Helicopter maintenance establishments. Both University of Mumbai’s Garware Institute of Career Education & Development (GICED) and Pawan Hans Helicopter Training Institute (PHTI) are  knowledge imparting educational Institutions and share many common objectives towards skill development.

University of Mumbai in its “160th years” is the premier university and foundation for most of the academic courses towards career advancement. The contribution and glory of the University can fulfill the dreams of the budding generation stepping into the field of aviation. The students of AME course supposed to be shouldering huge responsibility in the certification of an aircraft can achieve higher positions in the Industry after a B.Sc (Aeronautics) degree. PHTI offers an ideal educational experience that helps student to be successful to attain excellence in professional career. The integrated training program is designed to give the students a comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems, good maintenance practices along with Human factors to enable them to become skilled and competent maintenance professionals. Students are trained in our own approved helicopter MRO facility for knowledge & skill development. With a fleet of varied helicopters and knowledge imparting platforms, students of PHTI are benefitted to achieve competence of Indian, European, American & Russian aircraft maintenance, processes and manufacturing techniques. This makes our course unique in the industry. Further, as part of the training curriculum, students are exposed to on-the-Job training in our wide fleet of helicopters.

The affiliation with University of Mumbai’s Garware Institute of Career Education and Development (GICED) PHTI plans to offer an integrated program of AME & BSc (Aeronautics) course at PHTI Mumbai campus and plan to have 60 students batch every year. PHTI is designated as an outreach centre of University and the course would be conducted and delivered under the aegis of University of Mumbai’s Garware Institute of Career Education and Development (GICED). All enrolments would be done at PHL and the students would be required to purchase the inquiry forms either through PHTI or University of Mumbai’s GICED, Kalina campus. Recently, Pawan Hans has dedicated 1st Heliport to the Nation with an objective to be a one-point solution for the helicopter business and will act as a helipad/heliport for public passenger services, MRO facility for helicopter maintenance and also as a skill development centre for training of pilots, AMEs & technicians.
