As part of the ongoing Swachhta Special Campaign 3.0, taking place from October 2nd to 31st, 2023, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) joined hands with State and Union Territory Wetland Authorities to orchestrate an initiative to clean wetlands. This national effort was primarily focused on wetlands near Ramsar sites, referred to as Amrit Dharohar sites. The activities included cleanliness drives, weed removal, the pledge to protect wetlands, and the registration of Wetland Mitras. The objective was to enhance awareness regarding the importance of maintaining clean and healthy wetlands. The MoEF&CC’s ‘Save Wetlands Campaign’ provided the framework for this national initiative, inaugurated by Shri Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, on February 2, 2023, World Wetlands Day.
