Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma today assumed charge as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Indian Army’s Northern Command.

A highly decorated officer, Lt Gen Sharma is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla; Indian Military Academy, Dehradun; and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. Commissioned into the MADRAS Regiment in December 1987, he has completed the Higher Command Course and attended the prestigious National Defence College, New Delhi.

Lt Gen Sharma brings with him vast operational experience, having commanded an Infantry Battalion, Brigade, and Division along the Line of Control, as well as a Strike Corps in the Western Sector. His diverse staff and instructional tenures include service in a UN Mission and key appointments in the Military Operations Directorate and the Military Secretary Branch at Army Headquarters.

Before assuming his current role, he served as Director General of Military Operations and Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy).

Upon assuming command, Lt Gen Sharma extended his greetings to all ranks and reaffirmed his commitment to furthering the exemplary legacy of the Northern Command.
