Shri K Ramakrishna Rao IAS (Telangana 1991 ) presently Special Chief Secretary, Finance Department, Government of Telangana, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of the state.

Shri K Ramakrishna Rao , an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi, holds graduate and master’s degrees in Engineering, along with an MBA in Investments. His strong academic credentials have been instrumental in shaping his remarkable administrative career, which spans over three decades.

Over the years, Shri Rao has held a number of key assignments, including:

  • Special Chief Secretary, Finance Department, Government of Telangana

  • Principal Secretary, Planning Department

  • Director General and Executive Director, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting

  • District Collector and Magistrate, Guntur (Andhra Pradesh) and Changlang (Arunachal Pradesh)

Shri K Ramakrishna Rao is widely recognized for his expertise in financial management and developmental planning. He played a pivotal role in presenting all ten budgets of Telangana since the state’s formation, earning him a reputation as a pillar of fiscal prudence and policy innovation.

Known for his strategic thinking, integrity, and deep understanding of governance, Shri Rao’s leadership is expected to bring renewed momentum to the administrative machinery of Telangana. His appointment has been welcomed across bureaucratic and political circles as a move towards continued stability, transparency, and growth.

Smt. A Santhi Kumari, whom he replaces, had earlier been appointed Chief Secretary following a significant Telangana High Court judgment that resulted in the cadre allocation issue of Somesh Kumar (IAS: 1989: TG).
