Shri Jitendra Srivastava IAS (Bihar 2000) assumed charge as the new Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of REC Ltd. Shri Jitendra Srivastava a distinguished IAS officer of the Bihar cadre, has been appointed as the Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power. He assumed this pivotal role succeeding Mrs. Parminder Chopra, who held the additional charge following the tenure of Shri Vivek Kumar Dewangan IAS (Manipur 1993).

This appointment, at the Additional Secretary level, entrusts Shri Srivastava with steering REC Ltd., a key player in India’s power sector financing landscape.

REC Ltd., established in 1969, is a power sector-focused Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) with a substantial loan book of ₹5,65,621 crore as of December 2024, predominantly extended to the state sector. The company boasts a net worth of ₹76,502 crore and was ranked 9th in net profit among Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) for the fiscal year 2023-24. REC’s financing portfolio encompasses generation, transmission, and distribution projects, significantly contributing to rural electrification and the nation’s energy infrastructure.

Prior to this appointment, Shri Srivastava served as Joint Secretary in the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti (2023–2025), where he played a crucial role in policy formulation and implementation for drinking water and sanitation. His tenure as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (2021–2022) involved significant contributions to internal security and state coordination. As Secretary of the Public Health Engineering Department (2018–2022), he oversaw major advancements in rural drinking water and infrastructure development.

Shri Srivastava’s extensive administrative experience includes serving as Chairman of the Bridge Construction Corporation and Joint Secretary of the Public Works Department (2018–2021), enhancing Bihar’s transport infrastructure. His leadership roles as Divisional Commissioner of Gaya (2017–2018), Secretary in the Education Department (2016–2018), and earlier positions in the Health Department and National Rural Health Mission (2015–2016) underscore his multifaceted expertise in public administration.

At the district level, he has held the position of District Magistrate in Motihari, Vaishali, Begusarai, Gaya, and Bhojpur between 2004 and 2015, where he was recognized for strengthening governance and enhancing public service delivery. His role as Director of the North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (2014) marked his early involvement in the energy sector, a domain he now leads at REC Ltd.

An alumnus of Hansraj College, Delhi University, Shri Srivastava holds an MBA in Finance from Cochin University, where he was awarded a silver medal. His academic background, combined with his extensive administrative experience, positions him to effectively lead REC Ltd. in advancing India’s energy goals.
