Shri Jitendra Srivastava IAS (Bihar 2000) has been appointed as the Chairman & Managing Director of REC Limited, a CPSE Maharatna under the Ministry of Power. This appointment follows the tenure of Mrs Parminder Chopra, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC), who briefly held the additional charge of CMD at REC Ltd. after the departure of Shri Vivek Kumar Dewangan IAS (Manipur 1993) for his next posting. The position of CMD REC is an Additional Secretary level position in Government of India. Prior to being appointed as CMD of REC Limited, he was serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti.
Established in 1969, REC is a power sector-focused NBFC with a ₹5,65,621 Cr loan book (88% to state sector as of Dec 2024) and a ₹76,502 Cr net worth. It finances generation, transmission, and distribution, significantly contributing to rural electrification. REC ranked 9th in net profit among CPSEs in FY 2023-24.
An economics graduate from Delhi University’s Hansraj College, Shri Srivastava, also holds an MBA in Finance from Cochin University, where he was awarded a silver medal.
His career in Bihar administration includes a stint as Secretary in the Home Department and the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), where he focused on water infrastructure.
He has also held key positions such as Chairman of PWD (Bridge & Roads), Divisional Commissioner of Gaya, and Secretary in the Education and Health & Family Welfare Departments. His field experience includes serving as District Magistrate and Collector in several districts. Srivastava’s diverse administrative background in sectors like water, infrastructure, education, health, energy, and district administration precedes his move to lead REC Ltd.
