On September 19, 2024, during the conclusion of India Water Week 2024, the Hon’ble Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri C.R. Paatil, digitally launched the advanced “Bhu-Neer” portal. Developed by the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), this portal represents a significant advancement in groundwater regulation in India. Aimed at promoting transparency, efficiency, and sustainability, Bhu-Neer serves as a centralized platform for managing groundwater resources nationwide.
The Bhu-Neer portal provides users with comprehensive information on the legal framework governing groundwater extraction, including regulations at both state and national levels. Its centralized database offers easy access to details on compliance, policies, and sustainable practices, thereby empowering stakeholders to make informed decisions. Designed with user-friendly features, Bhu-Neer simplifies the process for project proponents seeking groundwater withdrawal permits. Key functionalities include a streamlined interface, a PAN-based single ID system, and QR-coded No Objection Certificates (NOCs). These enhancements mark a significant upgrade from its predecessor, NOCAP.
Aligned with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of Ease of Doing Business, the portal makes groundwater regulation a seamless and faceless process. Users can now leverage the platform to address groundwater-related queries, track application statuses, pay statutory charges, and access necessary clarifications. Open to public use, Bhu-Neer is a step forward in fostering sustainable water management while improving the regulatory framework for groundwater use in India.
