The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) is set to host a distinctive event, the ‘Divya Kala Mela’, showcasing the products and craftsmanship of talented Divyang entrepreneurs and artisans from across the country. This initiative, aimed at economic empowerment, will take place from September 15th to 24th, 2023, in Varanasi. The event promises a vibrant display of products including handicrafts, handlooms, embroidery, and packaged foods from various regions including Jammu and Kashmir, and the North Eastern states.
The Divya Kala Mela serves as a significant platform for marketing and exhibiting the products and skills of Divyangjan (PwD). The Varanasi edition marks the seventh event in the series that began in 2022, with previous editions held in Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Guwahati, Indore, and Jaipur.
Approximately 100 Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs from 20 states/UTs will showcase their products and skills, covering categories like Home Décor & Lifestyle, Clothing, Stationery, eco-friendly products, packaged food, organic products, Toys & Gifts, and Personal Accessories. This presents an opportunity to support ‘vocal for local’ and appreciate the craftsmanship and determination of Divyang craftsmen.
The 10-day event will run from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM and will feature a range of cultural activities, including performances by Divyang artists and well-known professionals. Visitors can also savor regional delicacies from various parts of the country.
The event is scheduled to be inaugurated on September 15th at 5:00 PM by A. Narayanaswamy, Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. The occasion will be graced by various other dignitaries. The Department has ambitious plans to promote this concept, with ‘Divya Kala Mela’ scheduled to be organized in 12 cities across the country during 2023-2024.
