Deepa Malik has created history by winning silver medal in Women’s shotput at Rio Paralympics 2016. It is the first Medal by an Indian Woman in Paralympics games by throwing her personal best of 4.61 metre. It is India’s 3rd medal in the ongoing games at Rio.
Deepa, an Arjuna awardee, hails from Sonipat district of Haryana. State Chief Minister Manohar Lal has announced a cash award of 4 crore rupees for her. Congratulating Deepa for her achievements, the Chief Minister said the cash award is being given to her as per the new sports policy of the state. Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel also took to his Twitter handle to congratulate the para-athlete on her amazing feat.
