Dr Brajesh Mishra ITS (1993), presently Deputy Director General, Ministry of Communications, and Head of C-DOT Collaborative Research Programs (Scientist ‘G’), has been granted permission for a foreign assignment. He will serve as a Senior Al & Innovation Coordinator (P-5 level) at the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Geneva, on a secondment basis, for a period of two years.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the United Nations specialised agency for digital technologies (ICTs). It comprises 194 Member States and over 1,000 companies, universities, and international and regional organisations. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with regional offices on every continent, ITU is the oldest agency in the UN family, connecting the world since the dawn of the telegraph in 1865.
Secondment in Indian government refers to the temporary transfer of an officer from their parent department to another organization, like a different ministry, PSU, or international body. This allows for skill exchange, temporary staffing, and broadened experience, with the officer retaining their lien and returning to their original post after a specified period. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) sets guidelines for these transfers.
