Shri Shantanu IAS ( Tripura 1997) has been empanelled as Additional Secretary at the Centre.
Shri Shantanu, IAS, currently empanelled as Additional Secretary to the Government of India, is a seasoned civil servant with extensive experience in governance, administration, and policy implementation across a wide range of sectors. An alumnus of the University of Roorkee, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with First Class and Distinction. Since joining the Indian Administrative Service in 1997, he has served in various capacities in both the Central Government and the Tripura cadre, as well as on inter-cadre deputation to Chhattisgarh.
At the Centre, he has held several high-impact roles including Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (2023–2026), Joint Secretary in the Department of Military Affairs, Ministry of Defence (2020–2023), and Joint Secretary in the Department of Defence Production (2019–2020). He has also served in the Ministry of Home Affairs as Director and Deputy Secretary between 2009 and 2014, contributing significantly to internal security and administrative reforms.
In his parent cadre of Tripura, Shri Shantanu has served as Secretary in multiple departments including Tribal Welfare, Labour & Employment, Public Works, and Home (Police). His tenure as District Collector and Magistrate of Dhalai district and earlier roles such as Assistant Collector, SDO, and Project Director (DRDA) reflect his strong grounding in district administration. He also led key initiatives in SC Welfare, Industries, Revenue, and Health & Family Welfare, having served as Mission Director for NRHM in Tripura.
On inter-cadre deputation to Chhattisgarh, he served as District Collector of Dhamtari, and held important roles in the Departments of Tourism, Home, and Panchayati Raj, particularly in Bastar and Raipur. He was also deputed for foreign training in the United Kingdom (2014–2015), enhancing his exposure to international governance practices. In addition to his core responsibilities, he held the additional charge of Director (Vigilance), Tripura from 2015 to 2017.
Known for his versatility and leadership across domains such as defence policy, public works, rural development, social justice, and strategic affairs, Shri Shantanu continues to serve with distinction, bringing a wealth of administrative insight and commitment to public service.
