The Khavda PS1 and 3 Transmission Limited project will establish a transmission system featuring two ±300 MVAR STATCOM units at KPS1 and one ±300 MVAR STATCOM at KPS3. STATCOM, or Static Synchronous Compensator, is a voltage-regulating system that dynamically adjusts reactive power in the electrical grid. This project, part of renewable energy power evacuation from the Khavda area in Gujarat, includes Dynamic Reactive Power Compensation, which uses STATCOMs with mechanically switched capacitors (MSC) and reactors (MSR) to ensure stable voltage levels by providing real-time reactive power adjustments.

Barmer I Transmission Limited shall implement a transmission system comprising establishment of new 765/400/220 kV BarmerI Pooling sub-station, 765kV & 400kV D/C Transmission Lines and associated bays extension works at other existing substation
in the state of Rajasthan. This project is part of the transmission scheme for evacuation of 5.5 GW of renewable power from Jaisalmer/Barmer Complex (Fatehgarh-IV: 4 GW, Barmer: 1.5 GW).

Bikaner A Power Transmission Limited shall implement a transmission system comprising establishment of 765/400/220 kV Bikaner IV pooling substation along with STATCOM and MSC/MSR equipment, 765 kV D/c transmission line traversing in the states of Rajasthan & Haryana connecting Bikaner IV to Siwani S/s, various 400 kV D/c lines traversing through the states of Rajasthan, Punjab, & Haryana along with bay extension works for the above lines at existing substations in the states of Haryana and Punjab.

Bikaner A Power Transmission Limited will set up a transmission system that includes the construction of the Bikaner IV pooling substation with 765/400/220 kV capacity, along with STATCOM and MSC/MSR equipment for voltage regulation. The project also involves building a 765 kV double-circuit (D/c) transmission line that will run through Rajasthan and Haryana, connecting Bikaner IV to the Siwani substation. Additionally, various 400 kV D/c transmission lines will pass through Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana, with bay extension works at existing substations in Haryana and Punjab to accommodate these new lines.

The Bikaner A and B projects are designed to help transfer an additional 6 GW of renewable energy from the Bikaner Complex (Bikaner IV PS), boosting India’s ability to distribute sustainable energy.

POWERGRID, through its Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs), is implementing several transmission projects under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model. These projects play a key role in advancing India’s goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030. They also help reduce reliance on fossil fuels and integrate more renewable energy into the national grid.

As of October 31, 2024, POWERGRID operates 280 substations, with over 178,975 ckm of transmission lines and a transformation capacity of 543,961 MVA. By using the latest technology, automation, and digital solutions, POWERGRID has maintained an impressive transmission system availability rate of about 99.8%.
