Shri Abhishek Singh IAS (Nagaland 1995) presently Chief Executive Officer, National e-Governance Division, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, has been appointed as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology. The officer will continue to hold the additional charge of the post of Chief Executive Officer, Karmayogi Bharat.
Shri Abhishek Singh is a highly regarded civil servant whose career reflects an inspiring blend of academic distinction and visionary public service. A proud alumnus of IIT Kanpur, he earned both B.Tech and M.Tech degrees in Mechanical Engineering, each with First Class honors. Furthering his commitment to impactful governance, he pursued a postgraduate degree in Public Administration from the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School, where he once again graduated with top honors.
His early central postings laid the foundation for his future leadership in technology-driven governance. From 2009 to 2013, as Director in the Ministry of Information Technology, and earlier as Deputy Secretary, he was instrumental in shaping digital policies at a time when India’s e-governance architecture was still in its formative stages. He subsequently served as Executive Director (IT) in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs (2014–2017), where he steered several key initiatives in food and public distribution reform.
Notably, Shri Singh also served as Private Secretary to the Minister of State for Revenue in the Ministry of Finance (2013–2014), a role demanding both discretion and dynamic policy coordination. His earlier responsibilities as District Magistrate in Badaun, Bulandshahr, and Hardoi during his inter-cadre deputation in Uttar Pradesh reflect a strong command over field administration and people-centric governance.
A turning point came in 2019 when he was appointed CEO of MyGov, where he led efforts to deepen citizen engagement through digital platforms. His subsequent elevation to CEO of the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) further cemented his role as a leader in India’s digital transformation journey, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when digital platforms became lifelines for service delivery.
His work before 2023 consistently exemplified his commitment to leveraging technology for inclusive governance—whether as Commissioner & Secretary in Nagaland, Resident Commissioner, or Joint Secretary in School Education and CM’s Secretariat during earlier years of service.
IndianBureaucracy.com wishes Shri Abhishek Singh the very best.
