Ms. Anuradha Prasad IDAS (Retd) (1986), an accomplished civil servant and former Secretary to the Government of India, Inter State Council Secretariat, Ministry of Home Affairs, took the Oath of Office and Secrecy as Member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) today. The Oath was administered by Lt. Gen. Raj Shukla (Retd.), the seniormost Member of the Commission.

A 1986 batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), Ms. Anuradha Prasad brings with her an illustrious career spanning over 37 years in public service. Known for her commitment to administrative reform and inclusive development, she has contributed significantly across multiple sectors including defence acquisitions, public finance, food processing, labour welfare, and inter-governmental relations.

An alumna of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi, Ms. Prasad holds a Master’s degree in History and a second Master’s in Development Administration from the University of Birmingham, UK. Her academic excellence has been matched by a career marked with integrity, innovation, and foresight.

In her early assignments, Ms. Prasad served as Finance Manager in the Ministry of Defence’s Acquisitions Wing, overseeing large-scale procurement of defence platforms. In the Ministry of Finance, she played a crucial role in financial oversight for Defence Services and the Ordnance Factory Board. Her tenure in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries was transformative, with impactful initiatives in cold chain infrastructure, food testing labs, and R&D-led industry support. She also served on the boards of regulatory bodies like FSSAI and NCVET.

As Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Labour & Employment, she was instrumental in the drafting of the Labour Codes and development of the e-Shram Portal, a landmark national database for unorganised sector workers. During her term as Director General, ESIC, she led worker welfare efforts with compassion and urgency during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As Secretary, Inter State Council Secretariat, she facilitated vital dialogue between the Centre and States, fostering cooperative federalism and accelerating key infrastructure and policy initiatives. Post-retirement, Ms. Prasad served as Member, Police Complaints Authority, Government of NCT Delhi.

Her appointment to the UPSC is widely seen as a valuable addition to the Commission, bringing in her rich administrative experience, deep policy insight, and unwavering dedication to public service.
