Shri Arvind Shrivastava IAS (Karnataka 1994) took charge as the Secretary, Department of Revenue, in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, today. A distinguished officer with an extensive administrative background, Shri Shrivastava brings with him a wealth of experience across critical sectors including finance, economic affairs, urban development, and public administration.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Shri Shrivastava holds a B.Tech. degree in Civil Engineering with First Division. He further pursued academic excellence with an M.A. in Economics from Karnataka State Open University, Mysore, and earned an M.Sc. in Finance from the University of London with First Class and Distinction.
Prior to this appointment, Shri Shrivastava served as Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) from March 2021 to April 2025, after an earlier stint there as Joint Secretary from 2019 to 2021, overseeing key portfolios in personnel and cabinet affairs. His contributions to the Ministry of Finance have been consistent and impactful, notably as Joint Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs between 2018 and 2019.
At the state level, Shri Shrivastava served in multiple pivotal roles in Karnataka, including as Secretary (Budget & Resources), Managing Director of the Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation, and Secretary in the Urban Development Department. His leadership as Deputy Commissioner in Bellary and Dakshin Kannada districts further strengthened district-level governance and revenue administration.
He has also represented India on international platforms during his deputation to the Asian Development Bank in 2017, where he worked in the domain of finance and banking.
With over 28 years of service in both central and state governments, Shri Shrivastava is known for his integrity, policy insight, and administrative acumen. His appointment as Revenue Secretary is expected to bolster India’s fiscal policy execution, tax administration, and overall financial governance.
