Shri Ramesh Kumar Sudhanshu IAS ( Uttarakhand 1997) has been empanelled as Additional Secretary at the Centre.
Shri Ramesh Kumar Sudhanshu, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1997 batch, has recently been empanelled for appointment as Additional Secretary to the Government of India. He holds a B.A. (Honours) in History from Patna University, where he graduated with a Second Class. He further pursued a Master’s degree in Information Technology from Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, graduating with First Class. He also studied International Development at Duke University, North Carolina, earning a Master in International Development Policy (MIDP) with Grade ‘A’, under the Sanford School of Public Policy.
Over the course of a distinguished administrative career spanning more than two decades, Shri Sudhanshu has held a wide variety of significant positions across both the Government of Uttarakhand and the Government of India. Currently, he serves as Principal Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Department of Urban Development, Government of Uttarakhand. Prior to this, he served as CEO of MyGov under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in New Delhi, where he contributed to e-Governance and digital citizen engagement.
Earlier, he held the position of Secretary to the Governor of Uttarakhand, and also served as Secretary in the Departments of Urban Development, Health and Family Welfare, Labour and Employment, and Technical Education in the state government. He also worked at the Centre as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and as Deputy Director at AIIMS, New Delhi. His field experience includes serving as Divisional Commissioner of Kumaon, District Magistrate of Haridwar, Joint and Assistant Magistrate in Ranikhet, Agra, Mathura, Ghazipur, and Pithoragarh, and Chief Development Officer in Pithoragarh.
In addition, Shri Sudhanshu has served in key administrative roles such as Vice Chairman and CEO of the Dehradun Development Authority, Secretary in the Department of Home, and Commissioner in the Department of Reorganization in Lucknow. He also participated in a foreign training program under the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) from 2013 to 2014.
His vast and varied experience in governance—spanning health, urban planning, labour, education, IT, and public administration—along with strong academic credentials in international development, marks him as a dynamic and well-rounded officer, now poised to contribute at the level of Additional Secretary in the Central Government.
