Shri Sanjay A Lathkar IPS (Jharkhand 1995) appointed as Inspector General (Security) under the Department of Atomic Energy (rank and pay of ADG) from the date of assumption of charge of the post till his superannuation i.e. 30.09.2028 by temporarily upgrading the post from level 14 to level 15 of the Pay Matrix for a period of two years.
Shri Sanjay A. Lathkar, a seasoned Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1995 batch from the Jharkhand cadre, has been appointed as Inspector General (Security) under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India. With a stellar service record of nearly three decades, Shri Lathkar brings to this prestigious position a rich legacy of leadership, strategic acumen, and unwavering commitment to public service.
Born on September 5, 1968, Shri Lathkar is an alumnus of IIT Bombay, where he completed his M.Tech. in Environmental Science and Engineering. An accomplished academic, he has added several qualifications to his name over the years—including degrees and certifications in Law, Management, Cybercrime, Human Rights, and Criminal Justice. Recently, he also completed his Ph.D., reflecting his deep commitment to continuous learning and knowledge-driven governance.
Shri Lathkar’s illustrious career spans across multiple domains of policing and administration. He has held crucial roles such as Superintendent of Police (Latur), Additional Commissioner of Police (Pune City), and DIG of the Anti-Terrorism Squad, Maharashtra. He has also served as DIG and IG with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), leading anti-naxal and internal security operations in high-pressure zones like Gadchiroli, Ranchi, Nagpur, and Mumbai.
His gallantry and distinguished service have earned him numerous accolades, including the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (2002), the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2015), and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2022). These honors stand as testimony to his dedication, bravery, and leadership in some of the most challenging law and order situations in the country.
Beyond the uniform, Shri Lathkar has played an active role in community engagement, leading initiatives in education, sports, environmental conservation, and youth development, especially in rural and naxal-affected regions.
