Shri B V R Subrahmanyam IAS (Chhattisgarh 1987, Retd.), currently serving as Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog, Government of India, has been granted a one-year extension beyond February 24, 2025.

Shri Central bureaB V R Subrahmanyam is a distinguished Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1987 Chhattisgarh cadre. Born on September 6, 1961, he hails from Andhra Pradesh and holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Delhi Technological University, class of 1983 and a management degree from the London Business School.

Throughout his career, Subrahmanyam has held several important positions. He served in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) under Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi during two tenures: 2004–2008 and 2012–2015. Between these periods, he contributed his expertise to the World Bank. In 2015, he was appointed as the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) in Chhattisgarh, where he played an important role in addressing the Maoist insurgency by building an efficient coordination between central security forces and state police.

In June 2018, Shri Subrahmanyam was appointed as the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, leading the region’s administration during a critical period. His tenure was marked by efforts to enhance governance and infrastructure development. Following this, he assumed the role of Commerce Secretary for the Government of India in 2021. In February 2023, he was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog, India’s premier policy think tank, where he continues to contribute to the nation’s strategic planning and policy formulation.
