The Railway Protection Force (RPF) will hold a day-long function in honor of the memory of martyrs on October 28, 2023, at the National Police Memorial (NPM) in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. The event will include activities to commemorate the sacrifices of RPF personnel who have given their lives in the line of duty.

In the morning, the families of martyrs, along with the families of RPF personnel and school children, will visit the National Police Memorial. They will offer floral tributes to the martyrs and also visit the museum at NPM. In the evening, the Director General of RPF, Shri Manoj Yadava, will honor and felicitate the families of the martyrs. A band display will be held to pay tribute to the martyrs. The day will conclude with a retreat ceremony and the screening of a short film depicting the heroics of police personnel, including the RPF, in their service to the nation and its citizens.

This event is a way for RPF personnel to pay tribute to more than one thousand officers and soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, including the 13 RPF personnel who lost their lives last year. In total, 36,250 police personnel in the past and 188 police personnel in the last year have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, which includes RPF martyrs.

In recent years, the RPF has expanded its mission to save lives, assist those in need, and combat human trafficking and drug smuggling. The force has evolved from being solely responsible for the security of railway property to becoming a dedicated protector of railway passengers. As a recognition of their dedication, RPF personnel have received various awards and medals for gallantry, including President’s Gallantry Medals, Police Gallantry Medals, President’s Police Medals, Police Medals, and Jeevan Raksha Medals.
