The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has partnered with GatiShakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) to enhance India’s infrastructure and logistics sectors. Under this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), GSV will serve as the primary agency across India for designing, developing, and delivering courses and curricula related to the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and National Logistics Policy at various centers in different states.
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Textiles, Sh. Piyush Goyal, emphasized that PM GatiShakti would become a global planning tool. He recognized GSV’s importance in skill development and capacity building for logistics professionals, contributing to formalization in the logistics sector. Over 16 Central Ministries, including NITI Aayog, and CBC came together to sign the MoU, marking the culmination of three key visions: smarter planning and implementation, specialized development, and capacity building.
Shri Goyal highlighted that this collaboration would bring academic rigor to the PM GatiShakti approach, leading to reduced logistics costs, efficient logistics, and a competitive business ecosystem. He stated that this would propel India toward comprehensive logistics sector development, aligning with the vision of becoming a Vishwaguru.
Union Minister for Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, and Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Sh. Ashwini Vaishnaw, stressed the importance of industry-focused and innovation-driven courses at the university. He highlighted the development of specialized programs for various industries, including railways and aviation. GSV aims to train 15,000 students, ensuring they are job-ready and aligning Indian skill development with global standards.
The MoU was signed by the Vice-Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Prof. Manoj Choudhary, and Joint Secretary of the Logistics Division at DPIIT, Sh. E. Srinivas, in the presence of Union Ministers Sh. Piyush Goyal and Sh. Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Special Secretary, DPIIT, Ms. Sumita Dawra emphasized the importance of improving India’s logistics performance ranking to global standards by 2030. The transformative reforms of the Government of India aim to facilitate ease of doing business, ease of living, and enhance EXIM trade-related logistics. The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan and the National Logistics Policy play critical roles in building a globally competitive logistics ecosystem and reducing logistics costs.
GatiShakti Vishwavidyalaya, India’s first Railway University and only the third such institution globally, was dedicated to the nation in December 2018. PM Gati Shakti Master Plan integrates economic and infrastructural planning with socio-economic development and has made significant progress over the last two years.
The National Logistics Policy (NLP) addresses soft infrastructure and logistics sector development, including process reforms, digitization, human resource development, and skilling. GSV will collaborate with the Logistics Division to establish knowledge centers for PM GatiShakti and logistics infrastructure planning.
GSV, sponsored by the Ministry of Railways, focuses on creating talent for the entire transportation and logistics sectors. It offers multidisciplinary programs, executive training, and research, with a strong emphasis on collaborations with leading institutions and industries worldwide.
The collaboration with GSV is expected to promote the benefits of PM GatiShakti NMP and facilitate international engagement in infrastructure and logistics planning.
