Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, chaired a high-level meeting today to assess the current Dengue situation in India and evaluate the preparedness of the public health system in preventing, containing, and managing Dengue in light of the recent surge in cases across the country. The meeting was attended by senior officials, public health experts, and key figures, including Smt L S Changsan – AS & MD (NHM), Health Ministry; Smt Aradhana Patnaik – Joint Secretary, Health Ministry; and Dr Manashvi Kumar – Joint Secretary, Health Ministry.

During the meeting, Dr. Mandaviya was briefed on the nationwide Dengue situation, emphasising the challenge posed by the increasing number of Dengue cases. Dr Mandaviya stressed the importance of preparedness and directed officials to strengthen measures for prevention, containment, and management of Dengue.

Highlighting the support provided by the Union Government to the states, Dr Mandaviya mentioned the provision of screening kits, financial assistance for fogging, and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities. Additionally, healthcare workers have been trained to manage Dengue cases effectively. Dr Mandaviya urged states and Union Territories to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Centre for the prevention and containment of Dengue.

Dr Mandaviya also highlighted that the Central Government allocates adequate funds to the states under the Program Implementation Plan (PIP) for various activities aimed at preventing and controlling Dengue. These activities include disease and entomological surveillance, case management, laboratory diagnosis, vector control and management, capacity building, behaviour change communication, inter-sectoral coordination, and monitoring and supervision. Special attention is given to entomological components, including strengthening entomological labs, mobility support for field activities, and hiring of entomologists and insect collectors.
