Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh stressed the importance of “Skill, Speed, and Scale” in capacity building for startups and various vocations. He made this statement while inaugurating a training program conducted by IIM Raipur faculty for Kendriya Bhandar (KB) staff, making KB the first organization in India to seek institutionalized training for its employees.

The Minister emphasized that maintaining the quality and cost-effectiveness of the end-product is essential for sustainability amidst competition. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s consistent emphasis on training and skill development.

Dr. Jitendra Singh also lauded the turnaround of Kendriya Bhandar, which was facing challenges until recently. The organization, with concerted efforts, managed to boost profits by over 30%, resulting in a five-fold growth from Rs. 750 crores in 2017-18 to Rs. 4,043 crores in 2021-22.

Underlining Kendriya Bhandar’s role in serving the common man, the Minister cited instances where the organization provided essential commodities at significantly lower prices than the market, including onions, Bharat Atta, tomatoes, and Bharat Dal. He also praised Kendriya Bhandar’s commendable performance during the COVID-19 crisis by offering rapid service and quality items at affordable rates.

Established in 1963 as a welfare project, Kendriya Bhandar is a Multi-State Co-operative Society with government and government employee shareholding. It operates numerous shops and establishments/offices across the country, serving over 93,000 members, including both government employees and the public.
