National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) organized a special function to commemorate Van Mahotsava here yesterday.  Students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pragati Vihar and Kerala Education Society Sr. Sec. School, R. K. Puram were given away prizes for national-level poster making competition and on-the-spot painting completion to mark the ‘World Environment Day-2016’.

Ms. Diya Gambhir, a Gurgaon resident and Senior Secondary Student of National Institute of Open Learning was given “Young Environmentalist of the Year Award-2016”.  She was selected for the award through a national-level Poster Making competition.

Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr. Amita Prasad, the Chief Guest at the function, gave away the Young Environmentalist of the Year Award 2016 and other prizes of the national-level poster making competition.  Joint Secretary, MoEF&CC, Shri Bishwanath Sinha, the Guest of Honour, distributed the prizes for the on-the-spot painting competition held under two categories on June 5, 2016.

Scientist-D, MoEF&CC, Shri E. Thirunavukkarasu, delivered a lecture on Solid Waste Management.  This was followed by a film on IPB – Green Building and a guided tour of the IPB-Green Building.

Later, plant saplings were distributed to the students, teachers and parents, requesting them to plant the saplings in their neighbourhood and help to make the environment ‘Green’, during Van Mahotsava.
